Climate: Bill Driegert

Bill Driegert is the inspiration behind Climate. For five years he has been struggling with the worst nightmare any Climate member can imagine. His little girl has been stolen from him. "Six years ago, I was living a life of happiness. I had a beautiful daughter named Nadia, a wife and I was doing work as a trauma nurse that made me feel like I was making a difference in peoples lives." Five years ago all that ended. It turns out his wife had deceived him and in fact was wanted for crimes in several countries. He escaped from the U.S. and took his daughter as a hostage. "I lost my wife and my daughter on the same day." He thought the government of the United States would help him. And some of them tried. The FBI, Interpol and American embassies abroad have worked aggressively to find his child. Voice of America has recently put up a website and made announcements all over the middle east asking for information on Nadia. But often, he found that the US government impeded the process of getting his daughter home. There are laws against abducting a child and taking them to a foreign country. However, he has since found that these laws are basically political fluff. They look good, but one cannot get the government to act on them. So he gave up his job and began struggling to get his daughter back himself. "I educated myself on International Abductions to the point that I wrote a book on it to help other parents." Now, we know where his child is. Nadia is being held in Syria. The government of Syria announced in June of 1998 for the first time ever to U.S. authorities that in fact they do know where Nadia is and that they have personal checked on her safety. "Syrian officails refuse to talk to me, and locked me out of the Embassy in May of 1998." However, when anyone else calls they say it is a just a matter of paperwork. Simply, they are lying to get people to think it is over and to stop helping him. He cannot begin to tell you the pain and frustration he has endured. He has traveled to several countries looking for Nadia. He went to Syria. He does not speak the language and was very frightened. Nadia is in Syria. Syrian authorities have the power to rescue Nadia. They have the power to reunite her with him. They have the power to give this child back her life so she can live normally. There is absolutely no reason for Nadia to be in Syria. Contrary to false reports from the Syrian Embassy in Washington, Nadia's father is not in Syria. They just say that so people will stop writing. H has full legal custody in both the US and Syria. There are no problems with the paperwork. For some unknown reason, someone in Syria wants to hold his daughter hostage. Whether this is related to the ransom demands he has received in the past, he cannot say for certain. No one will tell him the REAL reason his daughter is being held as a prisoner in Syria. "I need to say that the people of Syria have been wonderful to me. Many have written letters to their own government officials supporting my efforts to bring Nadia home. This is just a few people in the Syrian government with questionable motives..." Help him bring his baby home. Will you write a letter for Nadia? Will you send just few minutes of your time to help him save his little girl?

Please ask the Syrian Ambassador to the United States to send Nadia home. You can send your letters to:
